Hello Con Maniacs,

This one is for all the Doctor Who fans out there. Of which I know there are many. Gallifrey One’s Catch 22 Islands of Mystery which runs Feb 18-20, 2011 at the LAX Airport Marriott Hotel 5855 West Century Boulevard. You know, I can’t believe Doctor Who has been going for 47 years. The Doctor really can live forever.

Their lineup is fantastic. The show is being headlined by Peter Davison the 5th Doctor. He is such a nice man. Back in Australia he appeared at a Grace Brothers store and I got a couple of novels autographed by him. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Next up is several of Peter Davison’s companions. The first, Janet Fielding who played the fiery Aussie gal Tegan Jovanka. She was always a hoot on the show. After witnessing the Doctor regenerate into his fifth incarnation, she joined Nyssa and Adric in their travels with the Doctor. Tegan’s adventures with the Doctor were especially traumatic: she was present when Adric died, and was mentally assaulted by the Mara on Deva Loka.

Finally sickened by all the death she’d witnessed, Tegan left the Doctor and Turlough, after helping to thwart an attempt by the Daleks to invade time itself.

Next is Sarah Sutton who played Nyssa. Nyssa was the aristocratic daughter of Counsel Tremas, who had been chosen to become the next Keeper (a position of great importance). The Master planned to use Tremas’s investiture to give him a new regeneration cycle, and was renewed when he merged with Tremas, robbing Nyssa of her father.

Orphaned, Nyssa was soon reunited with the Doctor, and they travelled together, with Adric, Tegan and Turlough, for some time, before arriving on Terminus. Here, Nyssa was infected by lazar’s disease, and decided to stay behind, to help the Vanir research a cure.

Third is Matthew Waterhouse who played the tragic Adric was also somewhat of a heartthrob at the time. Adric, a teenage boy with a gift – and badge – for mathematical excellence, was a member of a street gang on the planet Alzarius, along with his brother, Varsh. Adric, alone and hungry for adventure, stowed away in the TARDIS after Varsh sacrificed his life to save the Doctor and his friends.

Often frustrated by his clumsiness, and fiercely competitive, Adric struggled to find a useful role among the TARDIS crew. He ultimately gave up his life by remaining on board a spaceship that crashed into prehistoric Earth, causing the death of the dinosaurs.

Lets not forget K9, well the actor who was the voice of K9 John Leeson. K9 was the creation of Professor Marius, who had made the loyal robot dog to circumvent weight restrictions when travelling to the Bi-Al asteroid. When he returned to Earth, Marius gave K9 to the Doctor. Capable of independent thought, and equipped with a blaster, K9 was a useful companion.

The Doctor gave K9 to Leela when he left her on Gallifrey, but had already prepared K9 Mk II. Despite numerous technical problems which put him out of action, K9 Mk II travelled with the Doctor until he was given to Romana as a parting gift. The Doctor sent another K9 to Sarah Jane Smith, after she had returned to Earth.

Few, I’m exhausted…What you want more? Well how about Kai Owen who plays Rhys Williams in Torchwood.

Kai Owen

This show has about another 50 guests…That is amazing. This show is going to be amazing. If your going I would love to hear from you see your pics. Especially of anyone dressed as my favorite Doctor, Tom Baker. You can reach me at Magid@raybin.com

I think I hear a familiar sound! No, it couldn’t be. Is that the Tardis? Oh my, what am I going to wear? You know, I think I’ll ask if we can go to Skaro. I have always wanted to see the birthplace of the Daleks. Here we go, wish me luck!
